Nordic private equity firm Norvestor Equity has appointed Henning Vold as a partner. Vold joined Norvestor in 2001 as an investment manager. He has worked primarily with projects within the technology and service sectors. Vold has operational experience from the Norwegian Army. He also has five years experience in management consulting from Gemini Consulting/Cap Gemini. Existing board positions include chairman of the board of European Travel Interactive and member of the board of ELIXIA Holding.
UK and Canada venture capital firm Celtic House Venture Partners has appointed Pierre-Andre Meunier as partner. In his new role, Meunier will lead the firm's investment activities in the Ottawa-Montreal region. Previously he has held positions including president and CEO of Codagen Technologies, and executive vice president of ISR Technologies. Most recently, Meunier was a partner at Montreal-based venture capital firm GTI Capital. Celtic House targets early stage investments in information-communications technology, and manages $500m.
Energy-focused private investment firm Quantum Energy Partners has appointed Cedric Burgher as COO. In his new role, Burgher will provide leadership for financial, operational and investor activities at the firm, consulting with Quantum's portfolio companies on financial and capital markets matters, and also will work with Quantum's investment team on potential and existing portfolio investments. Previously, Burgher was senior vice president and CFO for engineering and construction company KBR. He also served as CFO for Burger King in Miami. Prior to that, he worked for Halliburton as vice president and treasurer as well as vice president of investor relations. Quantum has over $3.2bn in capital under management.
Dubai International Capital has appointed David Smoot, co-founding partner of Morgan Stanley Private Equity, as managing director, private equity. Smoot, a trained lawyer, will report to DIC Private Equity CEO Sylvain Denis. During his 11 years at Morgan Stanley he was a member of the investment committee at Morgan Stanley Private Equity, led portfolio investments and helped build the New York and London teams. Prior to co-founding the Private Equity Group he was managing director, financial sponsors. With $12bn of assets under management, DIC invests in both private and public equity. DIC Private Equity invests mainly in secondary buy-outs in developed markets.
UK firm Rutland Partners has appointed Kajen Mohanadas as an investment analyst. Mohanadas comes to Rutland from CIBC World Markets, where he was an investment banking analyst. Prior to that, he worked at Ernst & Young, in transaction advisory services, specifically within Mergers & Acquisitions' Technology, Communication & Entertainment team. Rutland is currently investing its Rutland Fund II, which closed on £322m last July.
The Blackstone Group has appointed Thomas D Stoddard to the firm's corporate advisory business as a senior managing director. Previously, he was a founding partner of financial services sector-focused private equity firm Barrett Ellman Stoddard Capital Partners. Stoddard most recently was with DLJ and Credit Suisse, where he specialised in providing strategic M&A advice to financial services companies. Earlier this month, Blackstone Capital Partners, together with Warburg Pincus, led a $500m investment round in West African oil company Kosmos Energy.
San Francisco-based venture capital firm DBL Investors has appointed Cynthia Ringo as a managing partner. In her new role, she will help manage all aspects of DBL Investors' operations and investing activity. Previously, Ringo served as a managing director at VantagePoint Venture Partners, and was the group leader for the Communications, Systems, Internet and Media Practice. While at VantagePoint, she served as a board member for Entrisphere, Klipsh, Tymphany, Widevine, LiveScribe, Provina and Meriton. DBL Investors completed its spin-out from JPMorgan in January of this year. The firm manages the Bay Area Equity Fund, a $75m venture capital fund.
The Carlyle Group has appointed James F Burr, the corporate treasurer at Wachovia Bank, as a managing director in its Global Financial Services Group. Burr will be based in New York City. Burr joined Wachovia in 1992. He began his career at Ernst & Young, where he was a CPA focused on banking and computer audit issues. Carlyle's Global Financial Services Group, formed in June 2007, is co-headed by Sarkozy and David Zwiener.
UK venture capital firm Oxford Capital Partners has appointed Richard Hoskins, a former retail sales manager at Noble Fund Managers, as private client services manager to develop the distribution of the Enterprise Investment Scheme (EIS) Funds through the intermediary sales channel. Prior to Noble, Hoskins worked for Halewood International Futures as an account executive with responsibility for business development. Oxford Capital focuses on investments in emerging science and technology. It manages £36m across five Oxford Gateway EIS Funds.
General Atlantic has appointed former ABC president Robert F Callahan and former Altria Group CFO Dinyar S Devitre as special advisors to the firm. Both will provide strategic counsel to GA and its portfolio companies. Callahan's focus will be on the media and consumer sector. Previously he served as the CEO of Ziff Davis Media. Prior to that, Callahan served as president of broadcasting group ABC, where he managed the ABC TV Network. Devitre previously served as senior vice president and CFO of Altria Group from 2002 to 2008. Before that, he served as executive vice president at Citigroup and Citibank in Europe from 1998 to 2001. He serves as a trustee of the Asia Society and Brooklyn Academy of Music and is a director of Lincoln Center.
