Asian and emerging markets alternative fund company Triple A Partners has hired Joanne Murphy as marketing director for Asia Pacific. She previously worked in sales and marketing capacity for HSBC, Deutsche and Fortis. Murphy will report to Roger Pyrke, deputy chief executive and head of sales Asia Pacific. The firm operates out of offices in Hong Kong, Los Angeles and London.
UK mid-market private equity firm Lloyds TSB Development Capital has promoted Jon Andrew to the board as COO. He will replace Candida Morley as COO, following her appointment to the new position of CPO. Andrew joined LDC in April 2005 as investment director and has led the development of LDC's Value Enhancement Group, which supports the management teams in LDC portfolio companies. Prior to LDC, Jon worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers in the UK. In his new role, he will be responsible for finance, HR and IT infrastructure, with the remit to drive the operational aspects of the business in support of LDC's strategic objectives. In the new role of CPO, Morley has taken on overall responsibility for leading all of LDC's value enhancement activities. The firm invests in sectors including electrical, financial services, healthcare, IT & software, leisure & media, retail, specialist engineering and support services.
Drum Capital Management, an independent investment management firm dedicated to distressed and turnaround investments, has appointed Edwin K Camson as a managing director. Camson will assist in building out the company's short-term credit team, and will be highly involved in the origination, analysis, due diligence, negotiation and management of all short-term special situation investments. Camson served for over 17 years as a senior member at Bennett Management. He was also the founder and president of Trade-Debt.net, and senior vice president and COO of Newstart Factors. Drum focuses on creating and actively managing sector-focused fund of funds in distressed debt, turnaround, and workout opportunities.
New York-headquartered private equity firm Avista Capital Partners has hired John R Huff as an industry advisor. Huff is the former chairman of the board, president and CEO of Oceanneering International, an oilfield provider of engineered services and products used in the offshore oil and gas industry. Prior to that, he was a managing partner at investment banking group Falcon Partners. He also spent a number of years with Western Oceanic, an offshore drilling contractor. Avista was founded in 2005 and focuses on sectors including media, healthcare and energy. Avista closed its first fund in June 2007 on $2bn.
Renewable energy-focused private equity firm Hudson Clean Energy Partners has hired Terry Jester as an entrepreneur-in-residence. In her new role with Hudson, Jester will collaborate with investment professionals Daniel Gross and Craig Cornelius in evaluating investment opportunities in the solar sector. More recently, she led SunPower's $50m Solar America Initiative, a US government effort to accelerate the development of advanced solar energy technologies. Previously, Jester oversaw solar manufacturing for companies such as Siemens, Shell and Solarworld. Hudson invests in companies focused on renewable power, alternative fuels, energy storage and demand-side energy management.
Alpha Associates has appointed Henry Potter, senior private equity banker at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in London. Potter will join the Zurich-based private equity fund of funds firm as partner in September 2008. Potter has worked at the EBRD for 15 years. He helped build EBRD's private equity funds investment programme into the largest in the region. In addition to his managerial and transactional responsibilities, he oversaw EBRD's private equity performance data collection and analysis as well as the co-investment programme between EBRD and its portfolio funds.
Washington, DC-based private equity firm Global Environment Fund has appointed Raj Pai as a managing director for the firm's investment activities in India and South Asia. In his new role, Pai will be based in the firm's Mumbai office, and will concentrate on investment opportunities with a special focus on cleantech and alternative energy in Asia. Prior to GEF, Pai was a managing director at CID Capital, where he was responsible for investing growth and expansion stage capital in the US and India.
US private equity giant Kohlberg Kravis Roberts has hired TWC Group's William Sonneborn as it seeks to further develop its asset management business. In his new role, Sonneborn will work closely with Scott Nuttall and the existing fixed income and capital markets teams to further develop the firm's asset management strategy, complimenting KKR's private equity activities, according to a statement. He will also build and expand KKR's expertise by recruiting additional professionals, and will work with existing and potential investors and the public markets as a representative of KKR, the firm said. Most recently, Sonneborn was president and COO of investment management firm The TCW Group.
The Millennium family of private equity funds has appointed Jonathan Glass as CFO, serving Millennium Technology Value Partners, Millennium Technology Venturesand the firm's related entities. Glass was previously vice president of finance and controller of Venrock Associates. Prior to that, he was at Greenbriar Equity Group, and before that, served as a tax manager at Deloitte & Touche working with private equity and other financial institutions. Millennium has also added Brian Waterhouse to the investment team as an associate.
